 Julia Tyler Proof First Spouse Gold Coins
The obverse of the coin features a portrait of Julia Tyler. She was the First Lady from 1844 to 1845 during the Presidency of her husband John Tyler. She was his second wife, following the death of his first wife Letitia Tyler. The obverse inscriptions include “Julia Tyler”, “In God We Trust”, “Liberty”, the order of the Presidency “10th”, the years she served as First Lady “1844-1845", and the mintage date “2009". The obverse was designed by Joel Iskowitz and sculpted by Don Everhart.
The coin’s reverse features Julia Tyler dancing with her husband John Tyler at a white House Ball. She reportedly introduced the polka at a White House social event. The reverse inscriptions include, “United States of America”, “E Pluribus Unum”, the denomination “$10, the gold content “1/2 oz.”, and the gold purity “.9999 Fine Gold”. The reverse of the coin was designed by Joel Iskowitz and sculpted by Don Everhart.
